Kyambogo University (KYU) is a Public University in Uganda. It is one of the eight public universities and degree- awarding institutions in the country. It is the second largest Public University in the country with more than 25,000 students on campus. Kyambogo University was established in 2003 by the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 after the merger Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE). In 1928, the trade and technical courses at Makerere College (now Makerere University) were split off into the new Kampala Technical School. The school moved to Nakawa and became the Kampala Technical Institute. In 1958 that school was moved to Kyambogo and later renamed Uganda Technical College then finally renamed Uganda Polytechnic, Kyambogo. In 1948, ITEK started as a government teacher training college at Nyakasura, Kabarole District. In 1954, it transferred to Kyambogo Hill as a national teachers’ college and later became ITEK by statute of Parliament in 1989. UNISE was affiliated to the Department of Special Education at the faculty of education of ITEK, becoming an autonomous institution by Act of Parliament in 1998. The University is located 8kms from Kampala City Centre along the Kampala-Jinja highway. The Alumni Relations is one of the newly established offices in the new University structure of Kyambogo University whose primary focus is to create a database for all Alumni of Kyambogo University. The University Advancement and Alumni Relations office is under the Vice Chancellors Office and is headed by the Senior Advancement and Alumni Relations officer. Its responsibility is to build and strengthen relationships with diverse constituencies that encourage investment and support to the university in its programs and initiatives. It will also be responsible for diversifying the University’s resource base. The office focuses on functional areas which include; • Alumni relations Events • Resource mobilization from Alumni (Fundraising). The office is developing an alumni website to help us capture relevant data from Kyambogo University alumni and to keep you in touch with fellow alumni. Alumni Relations office will ensure that all Alumni are mobilized, a regular e-news letter with updates on the University are established and invitations to the University events are made. It will work closely work with Kyambogo University Convocation Office to promote the interests of our Alumni through organizing some joint alumni events.
